Has anyone fitted a Lucas DR3a two speed wiper motor (preferably the 3 wire version) to their Healey? It looks just like the DR2 original and fits on the same mountings .... If yes, what switch did you use?

Sunbeam Alpines changed from single speed to two speed wipers, while retaking the same fitting pattern, and they were 3 wire, so there is precedent. I will investigate the switch I have and look for a part number, but wiper wiring always seems a dark art to me !

Many thanks, glad of any info. I came across the following article www.thorden.dk/Teknik/two-speed.pdf which is good for helping understand what goes where. I haven't manage to track down the triumph switch he is referring to, as yet. However it appears that the off / on / on gives, off / fast wipe / slow wipe. I was hoping to get off / slow / fast, but perhaps that is asking too much !!

Well, I finally got my Sunbeam wipers working today, partially thanks to the article above. My wiring diagram gave the wrong switch positions. Funny enough, it gives off/fast/slow but I cease to care ! BBH, Ive got a spare switch you are welcome to if you want. It is the flick type rather than pull, mind you

Glad you got things sorted. Did the switch you used have a reference number. Lucas 31788 was the one I think is right but a 35927, offers pretty much the same functionality. The only difference I can see is an added contact in position 1 at No2, which I wouldn't be using anyhow.
Did you wire: No1 or No 7 to earth No 4 to the fast lead No 8 to the slow lead
I am planning to use toggle switches for every-thing, apart from the starter button.

Unfortunately, the switch has no part number on it. It doesnt have a contact at 2. I certainly had the earth to terminal 1. For 4 and 8 I think I wired them as you say. Certainly didnt work when I tried reversing those 2 wires

I ended up changing to a 14W wiper motor, as I wasnt happy with the original. The switch used is a 35927. I got the switch and info from Stafford Vehicle Components

Interestingly I spec'd the wiring harness to suit a 14W, with the plug end for the wiper connection and then decided to stay with the earlier model, albeit 2 speed, so am now converting back to suit.

Having got the original unit working, I was happy until I realised it was getting warm, obviously something not right. I've it a problem somewhere with power going back through earth connections, and I thought maybe the wiper motor was the problem. It's not 👹

If you want to be a bit more radical than either a two speed or the 14W, then the guy's on the Binky project have this up their sleeve!!
