Healeys - should have been called Heatleys! V8's are the worst or the best, depending on your point of view. Mine has been problematical over the last few years so last winter we had a chemical clean of the entire coolant system and a refill with 4Life coolant. At Goodwood after a few spirited laps, think 120+ down the straights, it would cough its guts up waiting in the queue to return to the paddock. Choices available were 1: Rip off the front end and put in bigger radiator and improve under bonnet air management. 2. Try Evans Waterless and improve under bonnet air management. On the cost front #2 was the winner and it went off to the posh boys at the local Aston garage to have the procedure done. After picking her up I took the quick way back to work (average 28mph) to see what happened to the temperature. First observation was that it warmed up more slowly than water+antifreeze but the temperature kept climbing just like the old days. Second observation was that I was totally sanguine about it as it can't boil until the temp goes over 180 C and my gauge only hits 140 C. After 17 miles of stop go traffic this was the result at tickover before switch off. Next job is to adjust the bonnet so it's lifted at the back and possibly put in some NACA ducts to feed the carb with cold air.

Are your side / wing vents covered or is it just fine mesh - can't tell from the pics

I've had 4 gallons Evans sitting in a shop cabinet for about 5-years. I bought it thinking I could run it in my vintage racer, but it's not allowed. So into the '65 BJ8 in will go, but this car doesn't overheat so it's a low priority. I did make a number of improvements on my '57 to correct the overheating problem and it appears to have help as I had to issues on my last outing. I'm not a fan of fender vents, so I installed fender well vents. I also fabricated a shroud to totallt enclose the "puller" type fan I have for maximum efficientency. I also enclosed the front surround of the radiator to direct all in coming air through it.

Interesting link. In true "politician mode" it does not answer the question of whether Evans is more flammable than a 50 / 50 mix, but rather tries to either explain why certain critical conditions are unlikely to occur or offer some alternative facts as to why it is no worse that the alternative.
I can't say I am convinced, so it will be interesting to see how you get on.

As a bit of a tangent to this thread.... Mr FH, did I just come across a picture of the Goddess sporting a new back arrangement and fresh MOT !
I guess if the Evans doesn't work as hoped you have the on-hand recovery service available.

Like this Yep, it now is totes legal and once the new panels are fitted we'll be on the road to lots of events next year.

Looks good. Does that mean that you have scrapped the rear "tent" arrangement or can it be either / or dependant upon weather?

Looks good. Does that mean that you have scrapped the rear "tent" arrangement or can it be either / or dependant upon weather? Tent? That's a proper tilt and frame. It's designed to be uniquely versatile. It can have the tilt for long distance and foul weather. It can have the retro side panelling for summer motoring and I plan to build a living van that is jack-able onto the back as a redneck motorhome. It's registered with our local 4x4 response team so if they need something moving/relocating that a Land Rover can't handle then I'm their man. With selectable 4x4 and the diesel engine she'll go anywhere. I think I've told the story before but young(ish) lad with modern car is stuck in drifts during a blizzard on a Welsh mountain road. The police can't reach him, the helicopter can't reach him but he has his mobile phone. He calls his dad and his dad can't do anything about it in his modern 4x4 but he may know a man who can. Dad calls a mate who not only has a Goddess but chains for it as well. A deal is struck over who pays for the fuel and a couple of hours later the young man, shivering in his car, sees lights approaching VERY SLOWLY. Rescue achieved and a slow but certain descent to a hostelry to celebrate. Drinks all round and a huge fuel bill
