I was very surprised to see a Jamaican for sale in the paddock at the Castle Combe Autumn Classic yesterday. The first one I've ever seen in the flesh. Was that the racer with an asking price of about £75k ? Yes, I think the price was there or thereabouts.

I heard that, but as I'm slumming it in California right now, I'll have to wait till I get home

one of my California purchases- an original Fiberfab key ring 😀 Sweet ! If you're still in SoCal, you can go by the old Hollywood Sports Car Shop. This is where Ronnie Buckman got his start racing Big Healeys and MGB's for Chick Vandergriff before Carroll Shelby tapped him to drive the Ford GT40. Not much lift but the sign still stands. Thanks Dougie. I'm back home now - to freezing temperatures ☃️ I wasn't that far South anyway. Mostly San Fran, SLO and Sacramento. I did manage to collect this, though 😀

I delivered my crankshaft, flywheel, clutch cover and front pulley in to get balanced today. We continued a discussion started in the summer about flywheel lightening. He reckons that, on a road car, very few, if any, people could discern any difference in actual driving, as opposed to sitting there revving the engine. I raised this on another forum and got shot down in virtual flames 🔥 On a race engine there will be a benefit I can see where lightening will help, but for a road car ? A measureable improvement? This engine is being built to be smooth so I've decided to stick with the standard weight of flywheel.

Well....... you're 6-cylinder may still be a slug. The stock flywheel was built heavy to compensate for the unbalanced internals of the stock motor. If you're going through the process of a correct complete motor build with true "blue print" balancing, then about half the stock wheel flywheel weight would make a huge different in performance behind the wheel. Oh well....

Dougie, I need some convincing ,Im afraid. I always used to think that lightening a flywheel was just one of those things you did when you were tuning an engine, along with porting etc. If I were to attempt to build an engine for racing, I would trim every last possible ounce of weight where possible _ youve obviously done this very successfully. I certainly wouldnt want that engine in a road car. In that I want smoothness and low down torque, as well as the ability to sit at legal speeds on the motorway. The only way to really prove that flywheel lightening works or doesnt would be to build a car with a stock flywheel, measure its 0 to 60 times, then remove and lighten the flywheel, and do it all again ! Anyway, I posted this hoping to get some interesting discussion going around here Neil
