GEARBOX QUERY
I wonder if there was anybody that could help me with a couple of gearbox queries I have?
My project is a 1957 100/6 being re-built as a 3000 works replica. The engine which is a late BJ8 block is currently being re-built and will be roughly 180-200 bhp. The gearbox that came as a box of bits is a side shift 4 speed w/o overdrive which I plan to convert to an overdrive unit. The gearbox is complete with bell housing and the numbers that are on the casing is AEC3174 on the gearbox and the bell housing is AEC3293. I have acquired a couple of overdrive units in bits and have the correct rear housing to bolt the overdrive to the prop. The only piece I need to acquire is the adaptor plate from the overdrive to the gearbox housing which I am currently looking at a Denis Walsh purchase
My first question - is there a possibility of converting the internals to an overdrive spec? Besides the main shaft, is there much of the internals that needs to be changed?
My second question - is there any compatibility of mounting this gearbox once converted to overdrive to my 3000 block that is a later BJ8 spec. block? I have double checked the engine back plate and that conforms with the bell housing and the engine block and I am about to send my existing fly wheel to Denis Walsh for lightening and they can convert the fly wheel to fix the later BJ8 9 1/2" clutch.
Before I go too far with this gearbox, just wanted to find out if I would experience any issues or recommendations to go towards the gearbox/overdrive re-build?
