I have the head off my 100 to change a broken valve spring and to decoke the head. Whilst I am here, I am considering changing the valves and guides as there is a bit of side play and some oil consumption. The service manual suggests it’s a straight forward hammer and drift to remove and replace the guide. Is it that simple? Do they jam in? Do the guides need reaming out after they have been drifted in?
I’d happily do the job myself but this does look like you could end up in a dead end here with only more hammering as a solution.
thoughts?

I would only consider pressing them in. Too much to go wrong with a drift and hammer.

Thanks for that. My earlier reply didn’t seem to save so apologies for delay, but, at least I can report a good outcome.
I took the head to The Headshop in Warrington. They replaced and honed the guides, cut the seats and honed in the new Valves, pressure tested and cleaned the finished head. All for £75 plus VAT.
So, no nail biting taps with a hammer😁.

That still sounds a good price for the work carried out.
