Hi All, I have a Tickford, chassis F3075, as shown in pic taken yesterday: Poor old thing has been up on a lift for over ten years. Brought her down yesterday, and found rear wheels won’t turn. Want to take them off and loosen things up. But I don’t know how to take hubcaps off! Any one out there who can tell me how? Don’t want to start prying and ruin them. Thanks!

Yes, attached and hub cap off car. A friend who had an Elliot told me the center unscrews and releases the rest of the cap. He was right! Now I need to get brake drum off. Its coming, with a lot of tapping and prying, after removing the three screws between the wheel studs.

Going to make a puller for the drums. I can move them a bit with levers and a brass drift, but not enough room to get all around, since wheel wont turn. Will post pics, info on what I do. Meanwhile, my workshop manual is missing sections M and MM, brakes of course, anyone got these they could share?

So here’s a quick puller. Tighten up nuts on outside end of threaded rods pulls drum out. Seems to work, second shot shows a small gap between drum and backing plate. Still very tight, will work on it today and see how it goes. Note axle nut is loosened some so center of square tubing is pressing on it, and clears wheel studs. Will try to hold drum out with wedges, move puller to horizontal location. Wish me luck!

Good luck! As you pull the drum, try tapping all round the drum with a mallet. If the shoe is sticking to the drum, it may help free it off

Thanks Neil, I’ll do that. Haven’t made it to shop yet, gone shopping for off road diesel so me and my Kubota will be ready for the snow this weekend. I’m in east central Vt, so may not see much, but you never know!

Long story short, its off! Rusty area was where lower lining had gooped up and stuck to drum. Bigger issues found: one broken spring: And brake cylinder all gooped up: Any thoughts? Anyone have a spring or know who might? Will get number off cylinder. Snowy weekend coming, will get other side off. I love old cars!

Spent some time searching for parts. Long story short, looks like brakes and maybe whole rear axle is same as BN1 A-H on the F Tickfords. Found exact match of springs and brake cylinder on Moss site for Austin Healeys. Found the fluid reservoir for XK140 is a match for one in my Tickford. BN1 exploded drawing below: interestingly, direction of forward rotation is opposite to way brakes are fitted to my Tickford. Attachments:
