That was one serious loss.

It's almost as if the classic car market has no real foundation under it

Then why sell so quickly. If you are in the fortunate position that this is "small change", then why not just "stick it in a corner"?

If somebody pays 400k for a car, do they actually drive it ?

I would but then I don't have them to sit in a climate controlled unit to appreciate in value.

The car was bought specifically to enter the Rallye Monte Carlo Historique this year, but due in large part to illness, the owner/driver had to withdraw at a very early stage. It had already become apparent that that sort of rallying was not his "thing", so I believe he will focus his motorsport attention on the historic roundy-roundy stuff, using other cars which are already in his garage. The Healey would have been towards the cheaper end of that garage.

I guess some-times the best laid plans don't work out as expected. If as it sounds that the financials are not the main factor here, pity he / she didn't offer the car to the Healey museum, (long term loan?) as it would have made a good reference point for the rally endeavours of the "big Healey".

He/she (or even self-identified as a carrot) could have lent it to gothatway so it could have been exercised occasionally.

I did liaise in getting the car to last year's RallyDay at Castle Combe (this year's being this weekend, as it happens), so have at least sat in it !
