Getting round to the front brakes on the rebuild of the BT7 and originally these were equipped with what the Parts book calls "Dust Cover Assembly", part Nos. BTC204 and 205 for LH and RH. Now the originals were in pretty good condition and cleaned up quite well ..... However I am pondering whether to fit them or not. The plan is to fit the thicker BJ8 discs together with Girling type 16M callipers on the original brackets. These do fit in the space provided by the Dust Covers but. .... On the positive side, I have the parts and they are ready to do and I guess BMC didn't go to the trouble of specifying them if they didn't have a purpose, such as keeping at least one side of the disc dry in wet conditions and stopping stone damage. However, they do also appear to be designed such that should a stone get caught between the disc and the cover, it isn't going to get released easily. Further it can't do a lot for cooling the disc. Any thoughts, experiences welcome from of those who have gone without ......

I always throw them away on any car I've had! Aids cooling (or something)

Dust covers are to keep the discs dry, even in heavy rain. Braking is much more effectiv having dry discs.

Throw them away and get the discs cross-drilled

I'll give it a try without and see how things go. I will always have them should I decide to go back and fit.
