I know there were threads in the old forum about tyres for Healeys - what are peoples' current thoughts ? I have CR6ZZs on my BT7, but two of them need replacing. I no longer compete with the car, so CR6ZZs might be a bit of an extravagance at £228+VAT per corner from Longstone, who strongly recommend the XAS at £192+VAT each.
The CR6ZZs seem to have lasted well, bearing in mind the treatment they have received. Does anyone know how well the XAS lasts in comparison ? I have been advised not to run different tyres front and back, so either I start replacing the CR6ZZs or splash out on a full set of XASs. Thoughts ? Alternatives ?

As a road tyre, Ol' Grumpy rates the Fulda Carat Progresso as pretty good and at under £50 each a bit of a bargain

The CR6ZZ's are the best road tires I've fitted. I use them as my "wet" racing tires and use bais-ply Dunlops or Hoosiers when racing in the dry due to our regulations. Attachments:

Hi there GTW
Can I ask how did you get on with your tyre selection and what did you fit in the end please.
I am soon to be in need of a full set and am currently running on Goodyear Eagle GT 185x65 R15.
Many thanks
Nick

In the end I decided to stick with the Avon CR6ZZs and just replace them one or two at a time.

Hi there GTW
I visited Longstone and changed all 4 tyres to the XAS, as they are over an inch taller than the Goodyear Eagles I was running, one was a bit tight fitting it on the RLHS and needed a little encouragement. They also noticeably fill the wheel arch a better on the rear and provide a little more ground clearance that I also need.
As for driving on them and the "feel", yes they are a dramatic improvement and I should have made the switch earlier....
I don't want to be seen as advertising for Longstones, but they do have a deal on at the moment on the XAS so that helped ease the pain in the wallet and were also willing to discount the advertised cost on other tyres (including the CR6ZZ).
Overall, an excellent service and a great set of tyres I am very pleased with.
Cheers
Nick

If it helps I fitted 185 blockley tyres with new tubes and they give a good ride with a tad more ground clearance.
