I know this is probably futile, but does anyone have any ideas on how to obtain or make replacement springs for an early BN! check strap friction plate? cheers Andrew Attachments:

Andrew, It might be worth trying to contact Michael Salter ( www.netbug.net/blogmichael/category/healey-stuff/the-restoration-of-healey-174/ ) as he has recently completed a concours rebuild of an early BN1 (no 174) and I am sure he has had to deal with this. I see the following in the concours guidelines .... Early 100s had a mechanism consisting of a pair of rollers that worked against small bumps on the tang that passed between them to hold the doors open. At B. 5001 the design changed to one that used stiff springs that snapped over thin steel bars. I am not sure which one yours is, but if the latter, post car 5001, then I think these may be available.

Thanks for the information. My car is indeed a pre 5001, so the straps are the former. They are common to the TR2/3, but the repro ones currently available are rather expensive and of poor quality. I'd rather restore the originals if I can.
