Has anyone had a windscreen pillar hook snap off their Healey 3000 BJ7 / BJ8? One of mine has gone, leaving me unable to secure the hood. All of the usual suppliers claim they stock them until you try to order. There seems to be a global shortage. It also looks like quite a painful job - has anyone tried it?

Are you meaning the hook on the hood frame, or the stud that crews into the screen surround? I've got a BT7 screen surround stud here

A picture would help as I may have the "other bit" still attached to what is left of the top rail.

Thank you both. It is the riveted hook on the windscreen surround/pillar/support. The curved section of the hook has snapped off leaving the riveted bit in place. Looks like a complete windscreen/pillar disassembly job, new hook, re-rivet, re-chrome etc. If I am going to replace the hook, I'd rather put a new one on as it looks like a job you only want to do once. I guess the hooks get quite a hammering over the years with hundreds of tension/release cycles leading to eventual fatigue fracture. Maybe I was over-tensioning it. I am now wishing I lived in California or Brisbane instead of heading into UK winter - so I could leave the top down permanently...

Would you fit a fabricated hook?

Is this the part we are talking about?

Yes that's it - pretty sure I've contacted everyone but no stock. I tried heating and hammering some 1/4" mild steel rod... major fail! Not keen on welding/fabricating due to the increased fracture risk. The disassembly job (windscreen out etc) is my biggest concern - I just haven't got the time right now. Finding some hooks would definitely be a good start though. Thanks for the help.

If you have a local stainless steel fabricator close, I am sure they would be able to knock you up a couple. I took a few things along to my local folks and for beer money, they fitted in a few bits ....

Thanks, I will investigate. Need to get the old one(s) off first.
