My 100/6 was fitted with an air intake on the scuttle , rather like the works air intake but wider. I'm thinking it's an aftermarket fitting but looks like a professional job as the intake hole is rounded edges rolled over and the mechanism looks purpose built rather than DIY . It also has an alloy fabricated tray under the scuttle inside the car with a drain ( presumably to catch any water that comes in through the air intake. And pipes to channel cool air into the foot wells. The question is ... is it interesting enough to restore and keep , or should I just blank off the scuttle and revert to standard ?, maybe even fit a heater (which it never had originally) ? imageshack.com/i/pmTaXrQvj imageshack.com/a/img922/8919/TaXrQv.jpgRead more: healey.hyperboards.com/action/view_topic/topic_id/5068/post_id/23043#23043#ixzz4qhyWKi1b

What are you going to do with the car ? If it's for shows/ concours etc, then it needs to go. If you see the need for extra cool air at your feet, then keep it, tho I suspect it will look a little odd with the bonnet grille, then another one the American further back. Do you have a photo of the bonnet in place with this vent visible ? Cheers, Neil

My personal opinion, but for me it looks awful and destroys the beautiful lines of the car. Its definitely aftermarket. Cheers, Josef

You could keep the fabricated under tray but change the air intake to a similar style as that used on the "works" cars if you didn't want to lose it completely.

That was my thought , I could keep all the parts and just replace with works type vent which is smaller . I wondered if the vent I have might have been a first version of the works vent that was later made smaller ? My car was never fitted with a heater so I can only assume it was for cooling .

Splashman, If you have a look at the "works" style vents you will probably see some subtle differences - typically they weren't all the same!!. From what I have seen there are roughly two distinct shapes : a. Those used on the Rally cars which tended to be higher and "squarer" ... b. Those used on the Race cars which were more elliptical and perhaps slightly wider .....
Quite a few folks sell the former type (incl. AHS, A4H, DWM and Dave Hardwick) but I am not sure if I have seen the latter available "off the shelf"
