No progress lately. I’ve been restoring my Land Rover, which was rather more rusty than predicted! It will be finished by Christmas, then it will be back to the Jamaican. I’m in no rush though. Hopefully, I won’t buy any more projects in the meantime

it passed its mot a couple of days ago, after a lot of time and money thrown at it. I had forgotten just how awful these things are to drive ( made worse by my aged knees ! ). It will go up for sale in the very near future, despite the fact my grandson adores it. The Jamaican is finally back on the ramp today, so work can begin again

The Land Rover sold, so its back to the important stuff. I have a running engine, possibly the first time this engine has run in 40 years ( I rebuilt it 2 years ago) but no gears at the moment

Investigating the lack of drive, I eventually discovered that the clutch release bearing was permanently pushed against the clutch cover, enough to not have any drive. How to create some running clearance? I had about 6 mm shaved off the flywheel and another 2mm off the release bearing carrier. Problem solved. When I set the whole thing up before fitting the engine and gearbox I was more concerned with making sure the clutch disengaged - not that it engaged. So now I’ve got a lightened flywheel, by nearly 2 kg, despite what I’d said before. 🤢 on a brighter note, I got my speedo and rev counter today

Oh, and I drove it today. 20 metres in first gear, 20 metres in reverse

i put the dashboard together, just to see how it looks. Opinions please. The cream coloured bit is a bit of shaped foam that will eventually be a glove box. I’ll probably do something for the drivers side too

Overall, looks quite balanced. I am still thinking about the bottom bit by the gear lever. Is that air controls in the left and what will you do with the middle recess? You may have seen this but I just came across this .... silodrome.com/jamaican-austin-healey-3000-car/

Heater controls on the left, and somewhere for sunglasses etc in the middle. In front of the gear-lever wouldn’t be a clever place for anything else. It’s not too late to alter ! That Jamaican ( which has been on sale for about 2 years, has been entered for the Bonhams auction at Goodwood on 17th Sept, with an expected price of £45 to £55k I think. You know you want to !
to add to this, I’ve spent far too much time looking at images of sixties and seventies British grand tourers, so there are elements of Aston Martin and Gordon Keeble - ( one of my favourite cars ever - a pal used to own one) in the mix. Hopefully it will all blend together nicely

i changed my rear lights. I realised that the Triumph ones were far too big, so I found these LED units. Only issue is they don’t have reflectors built in. Oh and the exhaust tips are just temporary plastic pipe so I can see how it will look!
