The tub is back from blasting, and here is the total extent of the rust damage Both toe boards are lace, as is the base of the bulkhead where it joins the chassis. While it was away, all the suspension was cleaned and painted - front kingpins/bushes have no play in them ! The engine has been dismantled, again, no apparent wear to be seen. Nearly all the piston rings were well and truly stuck in place. Once the rings were persuaded off and the pistons thoroughly cleaned, I weighed and balanced them all, followed by conrods, big end caps and gudgeon pins, each to .1 gram to each other. After reassembly, they were weighed again as a final check

How adventurous are you planning on being with the engine?

Not at all this time ! Balanced and ported a little bit, a decent exhaust, and that will be it. It'll be smoooth 😀

the rust repairs didn't take long ! I also cut out the rear seat pans and replaced them with flat sheet. Seam sealer, etch primer, then epoxy coating to chassis/ floors etc. Underside then got stonechip. Primed once more, just waiting for a few coats of colour, which is going to be California Sage, that rather lovely Aston Martin shade.

All the suspension is back in place, and the steering rack is positioned where I want it. I'm not putting the radiator exactly where it originally went, so my steering should have less compromises. Thats quite possibly all the progress till spring now, as I have a fairly large snagging list on the Sunbeam, then lots of holidays 😀

I was very surprised to see a Jamaican for sale in the paddock at the Castle Combe Autumn Classic yesterday. The first one I've ever seen in the flesh.

Was that the racer with an asking price of about £75k ? I showed my wife the advert for that so that she could see what a great investment mine is ! in other news, my new bellhousing arrived from Australia today 😀
